Case Study: SEO Optimization of a Media Website in Central Asia

Input data

Information and Objectives

A news website from Central Asia had significant potential but faced challenges in attracting an audience through traditional SEO channels. Although the site was registered with Google News, Google Recommendations, and Yandex Zen, traffic from these sources remained minimal. Moreover, Yandex had imposed sanctions on the site due to low-quality content and technical issues.

Our Team’s Main Objectives:

  • Improve the technical optimization of the website
  • Assist content creators in enhancing their workflow for better ranking
  • Strengthen interaction with tools that can generate additional, targeted traffic

Additionally, it was decided to create content not only based on the authors’ interests but also for SEO promotion. This combination allowed for an increase in organic traffic and improved the site’s visibility.

Work process

Completed Work

Technical Optimization

One of the first tasks was identifying and fixing technical issues on the website. We prepared technical specifications for developers to improve page loading speed, enhance site indexing, and resolve mobile version issues. Continuous monitoring of the website’s technical condition was also conducted.

Competitive Niche Analysis

We conducted an in-depth competitor analysis to understand how they achieve SEO success. Regular monitoring of competitor developments helped us stay relevant and adapt strategies to the region’s specifics and target audience.

Usability Optimization

By analyzing user behavior on the site and competitor solutions, we developed recommendations to improve website usability. Usability optimization helped increase user engagement and reduce bounce rates.

Content Guidelines

We developed detailed recommendations for authors on content optimization, including:

  • Technical text parameters
  • Meta tag preparation
  • Internal linking optimization
  • Image optimization for faster loading and improved SEO

Recommendations for Additional Traffic Sources

We analyzed potential sources of additional traffic and developed strategies for their integration. This included working with Google News, Google Recommendations, and Yandex Zen to maximize the use of these channels.

Creating Additional SEO Content

Based on competitor analysis and seasonal trends, we selected topics for additional SEO materials. A crucial step was creating separate content that not only reflected authors’ interests but also aimed at improving organic traffic.

Technical Specifications for SEO Texts

We prepared technical specifications for writing and optimizing SEO texts. This enabled authors to create content that better met search engine requirements.

Off-Page Optimization

To increase the site’s authority, we worked on acquiring external backlinks. This helped strengthen the site’s ranking in search engine results.

Monitoring Rankings and Traffic

We continuously tracked the site’s ranking dynamics in search engines and analyzed traffic growth to adjust our strategy based on the results obtained.

Indexing Monitoring

To speed up the indexing of new materials, we used Google Search Console and other tools for manual page submission. This allowed for a quick response to changes and improved site visibility.

Results obtained

Results

In 6 months of work, the site achieved significant success in search optimization. The main achievement was improving article visibility in Google Recommendations, which brought an additional 121,000 visits.

Another 1,600 visits came from Google News.

The most significant result was the removal of Yandex sanctions. Thanks to technical and content optimization, as well as direct communication with Yandex support, the site regained its position in search. Over six months, visits from Yandex increased 62 times—from 1,000 to 62,000 visits per month.

Thus, a comprehensive approach to website optimization enabled significant audience growth and improved interaction with various traffic sources.
